Tea-Cake-WheatFlour (Steamed Cake):
I still remember my primary school days where my mom used to drop me, and my 2 sisters into the school and while picking us from school. She used to make us eat a cake. Thus craving for cake started and its remaining till today with me. One or the other cake we used to eat namely honey cake, plum cake, apple cake, sponge cake.
When I started blogging initially in 2009 I knew cake was made only using Oven and it is called as Baking.
Interestingly I came across an event - Spotlight: Baking without oven on Indrani's blog called as riappyayan blog. I came across few recipes viz:
a. Eggless Date Cake (steamed) from Vegetarian-Cooking-Recipes
b. Eggless banana Cake from Chowtimes
I also read, Chinese doesn't bake cakes, they steam it and this goes with Japan as well.
I came across this interesting recipe in the net but extremely sorry because I really did not note from where and missed out give that info.
I use pressure cooker without whistle to steam while it can be done in Idli Cooker also.
Ingredients:
Wheat Flour - 1 cup
Sugar - 3 tbsp
Oil - 1 cup (small one)
Salt a pinch
Milk - 3 tbsp
Baking Soda - 1 tsp
Baking Powder - 1 tbsp
Method:
Take a big bowl and sieve wheat flour, baking soda and baking powder thrice. This is just to make sure that there are no lumps in the flour.
Put little ghee and knead the dough once gently. Do not overknead
Keep water in the cooker, insert a plate upside down so that it comes to 1 1/2 inch height.
Take a bowl and put little flour on the bottom and place this dough
Steam it for 35 to 40 minutes or if you plunge a knife it will come out without sticking
Serve it along with tea/coffee as evening snacks.
Wheat is rich in fiber so it is good for all aged people.
