WheatBreadCornSunaunde Porridge - Magic Mingle #3

WheatBreadCornSunaunde Porridge - Magic Mingle #3:

Magic Mingle is a monthly event in Kalyani's blog, which was called as itsnotmadrasi but she renamed it to sizzling tastebuds

WheatBread Corn Urad Dhal Halwa - Porridge
This month magic ingredients are Corn and Whole Wheat. Wholegrains can be used but not processed forms.

For my previous posts, please click here.

Sunaunde is a sweet made by Urad Dhal. It is also called Urad Dhal Halwa (click on this to check the recipe).

I bought frozen corn from Food World near my office at Koramangala. I had brought the roasted urad dhal and sugar blended together from home to make steamed kollakattais.

How to steam corn in microwave:
(Source: Easy Indian Food)
  • Keep water in a microwave vessel and leave it for 2 minutes so that it can boil
  • Take a used and throw glass which is microwave proof put frozen corn into that and add butter, mix it well
  • Keep it in hot water and leave it for 2 more minutes (2 minutes is safe in that glass after that it might crack a hole)
  • After one minute remove it and add little sugar and place it again for one more minute
  • Steamed corn in microwave is ready.

To prepare corn urad dhal halwa/corn sunundae:
  • Take the roasted urad dhal and sugar powder, pour steamed corn into it and mix it well

  • Try to make small balls, if you couldn't then pour little milk to it and make into small balls.

  • Trying for kollakattais went into a disaster mode. So as I had these balls I checked for wheat bread but i had only one which I had just put it into milk.

  • For the same I mixed two small balls and made it a porridge.

Pictures which I took in order to make Kollakattai:
Wheat Bread - squeezed out all the water and spreaded with corn sunundae
Marie Biscuits to get crunchiness on top of bread
Kollakattai dipped in Marie biscuits powder
Kollakkatias are ready for steaming

After steaming it did not taste well, so definitely will post this recipe soon.
